Great accomodation at fantastic prices Good size room well decorated and spotlessly clean. Comfortable double bed. Refreshments, hairdryer, iron facilities in room. Good large size TV. Good views Staff/owner and locals all very welcoming Very busy restaurant at night good selection of food and drinks. Book early to avoid the rush. Large full freshly cooked English Breakfast or continental included in price. Beautiful. Very dog friendly venue. Slept like a log. Thank you so very much Highly recommend a visit.

This was our third stay at the Oak and it was great as usual. The breakfast is a fantastic bonus - very generous! Very quiet through the night and the beds are quite comfy. Dogs are always welcome and well treated. A nice (dog) walk just across the road, on the forest that has grown where there used to be a colliery.

The room was very clean and comfy. Only problem was we couldn't open the window! Beds were superb. Doggies were well received - there's even a dog menu at the restaurant (not sure what it includes as our dogs had their own food). We ate at the restaurant, pub food, all very good. Wifi was good and much needed as we were reluctant to use the post-Brexit roaming (expensive!). No noise at all through the night. We had breakfast the next morning, which was great even if we didn't take the cooked British breakfast option. There is a lovely park and forest across the road, perfect to walk dogs before and after dinner, and also before getting on the road again.

Lovely little pub. Very welcoming and friendly. The staff were exceptional. The room was very comfortable, large king size bed and all amenities. We ate dinner twice, the menu was extensive & the food delicious. On the second night there was an event on and food was stopped early but they offered to prepare us a meal anyway. Breakfast was very good, lots of choices and all freshly prepared. The pub was very easy to find, situated on a main road but traffic noise is nil. Beautiful surroundings , fields, woods & horses!

The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. We also ate there during the evening. The choice on the menu was great as were the meals! The bedroom was a fabulous size and the bathroom looked newly renovated, but get those towel hooks up Ian 😁. The staff were amazing and very helpful as were the hosts. We'd definitely return if we are in the area.

We stayed here for three nights, the room was warm and spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. We also had dinner in the pub every night and loved the home cooking, with plenty of choice on the menu as well as daily specials. Also, if you enjoy a good full English, you won't be disappointed!

This is a lovely wee pub with rooms We found some areas to be a little dated but this REALLY does not take away from the value of the rooms and how fantastic the hosts were The bed was comfortable. The shower good. And the breakfast very reasonable. If you get a chance have an evening meal as they are extremely reasonably priced with generous portions The Royal Oak was ideal for our stay - a short drive from Kynren and the Beamish museum There looks like some lovely walks nearby, however we did not get time to have a wander (on this occasion) It's not a 5 star hotel. But honestly, who cares? I never use the spa/pool in those places anyway Very comfy, very reasonable (including reasonable bar prices) & 100% recommend Will definitely use again (eg visiting the area, stop off on way up to Scotland etc)

Premises were very easy to find. Room was of a very good size, and very well heated. We were received warmly by the owners, and treated exceptionally well throughout our stay. Evening meal in the pub was of good quality. Home cooked, definitely not pre packaged. All the staff on duty were really cheerful, polite and professional. Pub had a good atmosphere. Drinks were very reasonably priced. Breakfast was of a good standard, and copious, lots of choice. Despite there being no car park, (which we knew when booking), off street parking close to pub felt safe.

I stayed there pre pandemic and the landlord and landlady Mr and Mrs Truby recognised me. Enjoyed a couple of drinks with them and other guests, They like to chat to guests at the bar which is really friendly. I stayed there to visit Beamish Museum and Tanfield Railway, about half hours drive. A MUST VISIT Nearby Lanchester has a decent fish and chip shop but also a good Italian restaurant Ravello. But there are good home cooked evening meals at the Royal Oak and a good breakfast. There is a country park opposite the pub. Nice for walks . Except when it rains

Room was fine it had everything that we wanted. 2 bottles of water provided plus a tea and coffee tray as well, extra supplies available you just had to ask. Breakfast was excellent and dinner was from an extensive menu and was extremely tasty and the portion size was great. Good free parking outside the pub
